Men eat more chocolate for Valentine’s Day
(Last Updated On: February 9, 2015)
No, this is not advice for women to escape the temptations that the Valentine’s day brings in the shape of little chocolate hearts. This is an actual custom in Japan.
The route of this, now common behaviour, is actually an error in translation.
Valentine’s day translation error
In the 50’s, when chocolate companies started advertising chocolate for Valentine’s Day a mistranslation made women believe that the custom is for men to receive chocolate on this particular day. This behaviour spread and now Valentine’s Day in Japan is all about giving men chocolate.
The nice part about this is that along the way they decided to create a special day when men return the favour, this happens on the 14th of March.
