Professional translation services are a Tool of the New Rich
More and more people are in the market for professional translation services. Many of them are the New Rich.
In his bestseller, The Four Hour Work Week, Timothy Ferris shares some of his methods for setting up a life-style of a new kind of millionaire. A person with millions of… minutes to use as they please. We can’t say millions of hours, since a person who lives to 80 will only have 701, 265 hours in her life. These new millionaires, or “New Rich” as Ferris calls them, prefer to take mini-retirements and try to take more time to enjoy life in the here and now. Ferris compares this with the old mindset of working for 40 years in order to be able to take it easy and enjoy life in retirement after one turns 60 or whenever they retire. He argues that people should enjoy life more when they are younger as well as when they are older. Why wait until you are old to enjoy the fruits of your labor? What if you don’t make it to 60?
One of the main characteristics of “New Rich” is that their lifestyle is much more mobile than people in the past. For some this even means setting up life as location independent or nomadic. Even if one doesn’t go to the extreme of becoming a nomad, many of the ideas contained in this interesting book will be useful to some people.
Apart from the obvious usefulness of having translation when you are traveling (although if you are traveling for pleasure, you can usually get around without professional translation services), there is another key use of translation that is important to the “New Rich.”
One of the simplest ways to become location independent, but keep earning income is to be able to market and sell a product over the internet
How much of the work of production and shipping you keep in-house or sub-contract out is also important. So if you have a product to sell online, you can expand your markets by translating and localizing your web pages into other languages by using professional translation services.
